Sponsorship Visa

Sponsorship Visa

A sponsorship visa allows you to work in the UK for an employer who is licensed to sponsor foreign workers. Your employer acts as your sponsor and ensures that you comply with immigration laws throughout your employment. These visas are typically for skilled professionals or temporary workers.

Types of Sponsorship Visas

  1. Skilled Worker Visa
For skilled professionals filling permanent roles.

  2. Temporary Worker Visa
For workers filling short-term or seasonal jobs.

  3. Health and Care Worker Visa
For healthcare professionals, offering easier application processes.

Requirements for Sponsorship Visas

  1. Job Offer from a Licensed Sponsor
Your employer must be licensed by the UK government to sponsor foreign workers.

  2. Job Role and Salary Requirements
Your job must meet certain skill levels and salary thresholds (typically at least £26,200 per year).

  3. English Language Proficiency
You must prove your ability to communicate in English, either through a language test or a relevant qualification.

  4. Financial Requirements
You must show that you can financially support yourself while in the UK, with a minimum of £1,270 in your bank account unless your employer confirms this on your behalf.

Visa Application Process

  1. Get Your Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)
Your employer will provide a unique reference number (CoS) confirming your job offer.

  2. Complete the Visa Application
Apply online and pay the application fee. Fees range from £610 to £1,408 depending on the visa type.

  3. Submit Supporting Documents
    You’ll need to provide:

    • Your Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).

    • Proof of English proficiency.

    • Passport or travel document.

    • Proof of financial maintenance.

  4. Attend an Appointment (if necessary)
Some applicants need to provide biometric information (fingerprints and a photo).

  5. Wait for the Decision
The Home Office will review your application. Most decisions take about 8 weeks.

Responsibilities as a Sponsorship Visa Holder

  1. Report Changes to Your Employer
If anything changes in your job, such as your role, salary, or status, inform your employer so they can notify the Home Office.

  2. Follow Visa Conditions
You must follow the specific terms of your visa, such as the type of work you can do and the number of hours you can work.

  3. Renewing Your Visa
Your visa is usually granted for a limited time. If you want to stay longer, apply for an extension before your visa expires. Your employer will need to provide a new Certificate of Sponsorship.

A sponsorship visa is a key route for foreign workers wishing to join the UK workforce. By following the requirements and ensuring compliance with visa conditions, you can legally work in the UK and contribute to your career growth. Your employer plays a crucial role in helping you meet all the necessary visa criteria.
